Bodegas Marta Maté

The inspiration behind the founding of Bodegas Marta Maté began in 2008. Marta Castrillo and César Maté had been successfully making wines from a vineyard in Gumiel de Mercado for several years, but in 2008 they used the best of these grapes to create an exclusive wine, limited to a production of only 3000 bottles.

This first wine, named Primordium (meaning: the origin, the beginning) received a magnificent reception and was praised by wine critics and connoisseurs (95 Parker points).

After acquiring several vineyards in Tubilla del Lago in 2013, Bodega Marta Maté was truly born, exclusively dedicated to producing a limited quantity of top-quality wine. César has fought for biodynamic viticulture his entire career, but for a long time, producers in Ribera del Duero paid little attention. With his own project, he aims to prove that things can be done better and that respect for nature also leads to better wine.

All grapes are carefully hand-harvested and collected in traditional 12 kg baskets. They are then sorted for quality on the selection table.

Grapes of the best quality are naturally crushed by gravity and fermented in conical tanks to concentrate the natural flavors. César has top-quality cement tanks, the same brand used at Romanée-Conti and Cheval Blanc. Additionally, a cellar with only the best quality French wooden barrels from Burgundy. He wants his wines to spend as little time as possible in steel so that they are always breathing.
