Collection: Chionetti Quinto E Figlio
The Chionetti family has been involved in viticulture in the Langhe for many generations, and in 1912, a part of the family settled in Dogliani when Giuseppe Chionetti bought the first vineyards in San Luigi. At this time, the decision was also made to not only cultivate the grapes but also to produce and release their own wine. In the mid-20th century, they were one of only three families to release their own Dolcetto, and Giuseppe's son Andrea was the first to also put the names of the vineyards on the label.
Dogliani – the DOCG of Piedmont that puts Dolcetto in the spotlight. It is located in the southwest of the Langhe, at an altitude of 300 meters, just below Barolo. Dogliani is one of the oldest production areas in Piedmont. The archives of the municipality of Dogliani still contain an important document called “Ordini per le Vendemmie”, which means “the rules for the harvest”. In this document, the grape variety “Dozzetti”, or Dolcetto, is already mentioned as the most important grape.
Chionetti never stops developing. Quality can only improve, and they work with the utmost respect for nature. They are organically certified, and almost everything is still done by hand. The work in the cellar has also developed significantly, and Chionetti cannot simply be described as a 'traditionalist' or 'modernist'. They work with respect for the classic style but use modern techniques in the cellar that complement their wine. Cement tanks are used for aging the wine, which allows for oxygen exchange without imparting flavor. The wooden barrels they use for some wines are larger in size, but not as large as a traditional Botti, and are made from French oak bent with steam instead of fire. This results in a barrel without toast, which therefore imparts less wood flavor.
With five generations, Chionetti is already at the top of Dogliani, yet for us, it feels like we are witnessing the beginning of something great. The dedication to continuous development and looking to the future is something that perfectly fits into the Karakter family.
