Amontillado ‘Micaela'

Amontillado ‘Micaela'

Amontillado is a type of wine that first undergoes aging under flor, and then continues to age oxidatively. Either the flor spontaneously stops, or a little alcohol is added to deactivate the flor. Both of these types of aging give the wine its class: it has both the freshness and lightness of Manzanilla, and something of the richness and fragrance of Oloroso. Yet it also has salinity; it doesn't deny its origins. Delicious with Spanish charcuterie.

Meer over Bodegas Barón

Barón belongs to the oldest bodegas in the Jerez/Sherry wine region (dating back to 1631!) and can be found in the old heart of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Very authentic wines from various soleras: the basic wines age for 3 to 5 years and are bottled as 'Micaela'. Wines from older soleras are called 'Xixarito' (e.g., the Manzanilla Pasada under this name is between 8 and 10 years old). When wine is drawn from the oldest and finest botas, 'Soluqua' appears on the label: these are precious treasures.

A very traditional company with antique solera systems, but the Rodríguez Carrasco family does not lose sight of the future. For example, significant investments are being made, an example of which is the recent acquisition of the 'Poedo' vineyard. This consists of beautiful 'Albariza' soils, extending into the Atlantic Ocean.

Also very much worth mentioning: the playful and cheerful way of labeling. This is also to emphasize the renewed elan of this ancient wine region.
