Citrus-coloured wine, with delicate aromas of tropical fruits, flowers and Atlantic minerality. In the mouth is fresh, intense and creamy, with a long aftertaste. A field blend from Vinha da Gafa, made from Fernão Pires & Arinto grapes. A simple and straight expression of this special vineyard.

Quinta Várzea da Pedra is located in the DOC called Óbidos, with vineyards surrounding the historic village of Óbidos, which was already inhabited before the Romans occupied the Iberian Peninsula. In the 13th century, King D. Dinis granted Óbidos to his wife, and it has since been known as the town of queens.
The Óbidos region is one of several wine regions located north of Lisbon. It boasts a unique microclimate, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Montejunto mountains. The vineyards are only 20km from the sea and 15km from the mountains. When we stand in the vineyard, winemaker Tomás tells us about the influence of the sea breeze on the vines; in the past, the sea almost reached the vineyards, and this ancient topography creates a portal through which the wind is directed to the vineyard.
This cooling wind carries droplets of seawater that are captured by the leaves. In combination with the mountains, which retain rain on the seaside, this creates an extremely cool climate. Tomás explains that Óbidos is always about 6 degrees colder than Lisbon, which is only 50 km away.
As a result, the wines have a pronounced acidity and salinity, a style not readily expected when one thinks of Portugal.
