Grüner Veltliner 'Ried Dechant 1st Growth' 2019
Withered blossom, Earl Grey and black pepper on the nose with plums and wet stones on the palate. The Dechant site is unique, which also makes the wine special. The terrain is warm, located at the foot of the mountain and faces southeast towards the morning sun. The soil is deep loess, which produces a voluptuous, soft wine – to be honest, precisely the type of wine they don't want to make. The fact that they still enjoy producing this wine despite everything lies in the challenge of maintaining balance. Acidity is absolutely essential because it forms 'the corset' that must fit perfectly tight. The choice of harvest time is crucial to achieve this. And when successful: an exemplary Grüner Veltliner that offers vibrancy, dark fruit and abundant spices. Aging takes place over several months on the lees in used 2000-liter oak barrels.

A special family home with a long tradition, located in the municipality of Langenlois in the Kamptal district. Alwin Jurtschitsch (daily management) and his wife Stefanie (winemaker) are dedicated to making the best possible wine. Since taking charge, they have reduced the vineyard area; the best vineyards were thus retained (or expanded), while the lesser plots were closed off. Work in the cellar is also carried out with great skill and precision. The result: unmistakably high-quality wines that have consistently taken top positions in the lists of the best Austrian whites in recent years.
The Grüner Veltliner here is mostly planted on slightly more fertile soil, in places that also retain water more easily. This gives the wines some extra body, without sacrificing elegance. All of Jurtschitsch's wines are very precise, without interference, perfectly balanced, and beautifully express the grape and terroir.
