Tenuta Iuzzolini, 2019
Maradea Riserva 2019
Maradea Riserva 2019
Powerful, robust wine made from the local Gaglioppo grape. This Riserva has been aged in a very special way, namely 12 months in chestnut wood barrels. ‘Maradea’ stands for the best-situated vineyard where Gaglioppo grows and flourishes. Precisely for this reason, Iuzzolini chose the ancient aging method in handmade chestnut wood barrels (dating back to Greek times). There are only two producers left in Italy who still use this classic aging method. It can compete with the great Tuscan wines but is much more affordable.

Tenuta Iuzzolini is the estate of the now very elderly Fortunato Iuzzolini. In the 1970s, he left impoverished Calabria to work in Mercedes factories in Stuttgart. In his spare time, he began importing and distributing dried pasta like Barilla's, and managed to build up a small fortune.
His homeland kept calling, and once he had saved enough, he returned to buy old vineyards in his hometown of Cirò Marina.
His sons and daughters have now joined the company, and in 2005, a beautiful new winery was put into operation. Iuzzolini's wines have been in our assortment for many years, and they continue to show their depth and refinement.
