Until the 1950s, Domaine Saint Marc was purely a business that only cultivated vineyards and sold grapes to cooperatives. In 1980, Jean Claude Mitanchey, formerly a winemaker and oenologist in the Rhone, and a good friend, Philippe Aubertin, took on the challenge of marketing their wines independently (with only 0.5 ha).
Twenty-five years later, the two families (Mitanchey and Aubertin) own 5.5 ha of vines with prestigious appellations such as Santenay, Pommard, Beaune 1er Cru, and Meursault.
In 2012, Domaine Saint-Marc had 6 ha of vines. Arnaud Mitanchey (Jean Claude's son), a graduate of the Beaune wine school, joined the company that year after working for 6 months in California, among other places.
He brought 1.50 ha of vines with him, including 2 Premier Crus Maranges and Santenay. Saint-Marc is still very small, producing between 22,000 and 28,000 bottles per year... small but mighty!
