La Grande Maison, 2000
Monbazillac Cuvée du Chateau 2000
Monbazillac Cuvée du Chateau 2000
A top wine from Grande Maison and a serious alternative to much more expensive Sauternes. Candied fruit, soft citrus notes, spices; this complex dessert wine has it all. Only made in good years when the botrytis mould does its work well, causing the grapes to lose their moisture but not their sugars. A beautiful concentrate then, intense and opulent. Ideal with blue cheeses such as Stilton and Roquefort.

A beautiful estate from Bergerac, with both noble sweet Monbazillac wines and dry white and red Bergerac. It has long been organically certified, and under Thierry Deprès, it has grown to become a leader in the region. Since 2012, the young and ambitious Benjamin Chabrol has been at the helm, and he seems to have found the right path.
The wines are clean and clear, and, as tradition dictates, made with Bordeaux grapes. They also always have a rustic edge, best described as countryside charm.
The noble sweet wine is made from various grades of 'pourriture noble', ranging from light sweetness to syrupy intensity.
