Moscatel of Setúbal

Moscatel of Setúbal

This fortified sweet wine is made from Muscat of Alexandria, which is also the ingredient for beautiful sweet wines in other countries around the Mediterranean. But the Setúbal tastes very different. This is due to the special way it is made. Winemakers stop fermentation by adding alcohol, up to 17.5%. The must then goes into large wooden barrels, where the winemaker adds some fresh grapes. The wine is then aged for at least four and sometimes tens of years. It evaporates, turns an orange-yellow color, and has an unbelievably beautiful density. Fresh-fruity, with some citrus and a cocktail of various exotic fruits.
