Joan Rubió / Tiques Vins, 2018

Obstinate 2018

Obstinate 2018

A characterful, biodynamic wine that embodies the essence of terroir and craftsmanship. Made from carefully selected grapes from old vineyards, this wine offers an intriguing blend of expressiveness and elegance.

In the glass, Obstinat reveals a deep ruby red color with purple reflections. The nose is intense and layered, with aromas of ripe berries, cherries, and plums, complemented by subtle hints of violets, herbs, and a touch of graphite. On the palate, the wine displays its refined structure: juicy, with lively acidity and velvety tannins that lead to a long, mineral finish.

Meer over Joan Rubió / Tiques Vins

For 15 years, Joan Rubio was the winemaker and technical director at the renowned Cava producer Recaredo; there, among other things, he introduced biodynamic practices. After 15 years, in 2015, he decided to embark on his own adventure with his family's vineyards in Penedès. A progressive project that uses a combination of old and new techniques to make wines from local grapes in an ultimately pure style.

The family heritage consists of 5 hectares of vineyard, 2 hectares of olives, and 1 hectare of grain. The vineyards are located in the villages of Santa Margarida i els Monjos, Castellví de la Marca, and Vilafranca del Penedès; all villages that are part of the higher parts of the region. All vineyards are organically certified and cultivated using biodynamic principles.

All of Joan's wines undergo skin maceration, the length of which varies per wine, some only 5 days, others up to about 2 weeks. Pressing is generally done solely by gravity, which ensures a more gentle extraction of tannins. Aging takes place in a mix of steel, old oak barrels, and also ceramic.
