One Off # 5
At the young Bell Cros, they learn by trying. They express this in their One Off line, where they experiment with certain grapes, unusual vinification methods, or with grapes they wouldn't normally use. In One Off #5, the result is a so-called Claret. A claret is a rosé-like wine made from equal parts Garnacha Blanca and Garnacha. The name is used for wines that generally have a very light and bright red color. The grapes are mixed and then fermented and macerated together. A fresh, aromatic wine with a hint of citrus and red fruit, we also taste some aniseed. We think this one should also be included in the regular line!

Bell Cros is located high in Montsant, bordering Priorat. A relatively young winery, but with old vines! The quality of the vineyards is immense. Previously, it was a bit too high and cold here. Moreover, the vineyards were not protected by surrounding mountain ridges as in Priorat. But the changing climate has had its advantages here.
The first person to recognize this was winemaker Joan Asens. A man nicknamed "crac" - roughly translatable as genius - is, of course, a great asset. Born and raised next to the current estate, he knew the potential of these vineyards. For example, he was a consulting winemaker for Alvaro Palacios but did not have to think long about becoming the winemaker for Bell Cros.
2019 was his first year at Bell Cros, and in that same year, he was named winemaker of the year in Catalonia.
The white wines are made from Garnacha Blanca, and the red wines from Carinena and Garnacha.
