Riesling 'Münster' 2018
Riesling 'Münster' 2018
Expressive VDP Ortsriesling (= 'village' wine as in Burgundy, for example) from slate soils with intense aromas of fresh citrus and grapefruit. The pleasant acidity is wonderfully integrated and fits into the long-lasting mineral finish. The grapes for this Riesling come from the Erste Lage in Münster Pittersberg and Münster Kapellenberg. 40% of the wine has been aged in large wooden barrels and the rest in stainless steel.

The Kruger-Rumpf winery is a well-known and highly regarded producer from the north of the Nahe region. In Münster-Sarmsheim, the Rumpf family has been making wine for many generations, using vineyards in the Nahe valley and the neighboring Rheinhessen. A true family estate with deep roots in regional culture, it also includes a 'Weinstube' (wine tavern) and several guest rooms in addition to the winery.
The winery has long been dedicated to producing quality wines, as evidenced by its VDP membership since 1992. However, the real leap to the top began under the leadership of the young Georg (winemaker), supported by his father Rumpf; they are responsible for the remarkable jump in quality in recent years, which has not gone unnoticed internationally.
Georg makes fantastic Rieslings; intense and very terroir-driven. This grape variety excels in the excellent Pittersberg, Dautenpflänzer, and Scharlachberg vineyards (the latter located in Rheinhessen). The quality of these Grosse Gewächse can now rival that of famous vineyards further south in the Nahe valley. We also fell completely for the Weiss- and Spätburgunders from this house.
Impressive across the board, then. And while the performance of this winery is already highly satisfying, if the upward trend continues in the coming years, we can really look forward to what's to come in a few decades. Currently working sustainably but not yet certified organic!
