The Roter Hang is a slope along the Rhine between Nackenheim and Nierstein, mainly facing south and east. For many German winemakers, it is a dream to own vineyards on the 'Roter Hang', and Stefan is lucky enough to do so... Dominant soil types here are red slate and red volcanic rock ('Rotliegendes'). The colour of these soil types is red due to stored iron compounds (hematite). Riesling responds fantastically to this unique terroir: the wine is exceptionally delicate, mineral and subtly (stone) fruity. A fine 'spicy' minerality, fine texture, juicy fruit and a fresh finish with considerable length.
