Convento San Lorenzo, 2019

Valtellina Superiore Sassela Riserva Clos Convento 2019

Valtellina Superiore Sassela Riserva Clos Convento 2019

In the monastery of San Lorenzo, the vineyard is protected by an old stone wall. The nuns were granted the monastery in 1100 by the wealthy Capitanei family from Sondrio. Located in the heart of Sassela and with a beautiful view over the terraces in the valley, the clos benefits from a perfect location facing the precious sun rays. Le Breva, the wind from Lake Como, also keeps the vineyard dry and healthy.

Meer over Convento San Lorenzo

The Monastery of San Lorenzo is located in the heart of the Valtellina wine region. The monastery buildings were constructed in 1100 and shortly thereafter taken into use by Benedictine nuns. Since then, they have also been responsible for the maintenance of the surrounding lands and the walled vineyards.

For the past 40 years, winemaker Mamete Prevostini has taken over. The vineyards demand perseverance and passion from the winemaker; they are located at an altitude of 400-600 meters, it is cold there, and the soil consists of sand and stone. The rows of grapes are planted on ancient terraces. From these 8 hectares, 40,000 bottles are produced each year.
